Music festival held from March to April in the Ueno area of Tokyo. “Tokyo Opera Forest”, which performed in 2005 under the opera performance by Seiji Ozawa, was renamed the current name in 2009. Total 150 performances, including 50 paid performances and 100 free performances is going. It is also the largest classical music festival in Japan.
During the festival, there are many concerts which using cultural facilities such as the Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, the Tokyo University of the Arts, the National Museum of Science, the Tokyo National Museum, the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, the National Museum of Western Art.
The “Tokyo Spring Festival Wagner Series”, presents Wagner’s opera in concert format every year, is ongoing. In 2018, Lohengrin was performed by the NHK Symphony Orchestra conducted by Wolf Schirmer.
For three years from 2019, the “Italian Opera Academy” will be held in the form of the overseas development of the Italian Ravenna Music Festival, which is prestigious by the master Riccardo Muti, who has been on the podium of opera performances in the past.
On the other hand, a free mini-concert “Sakura no Machi-no-Ongaukai” featuring music, “Tokyo Spring Festival NIGHT” where you can enjoy classical music all night while tilting the glass, and “Conduct Us”, a free trial event that conducts 40 people’s orchestras. There are many interesting projects.
