Novosibirsk, which means “new city of Siberia”, is the central city of Siberia that developed along the Ob River. The city, which began construction at the end of the 19th century to cultivate the east, has a population of over 1.6 million in 2017 and continues to develop as Russia’s third largest city.

The city gave birth to two international violinists. One is Vadim Repin and the other is Maxim Vengerov. The festival was founded in 2014 by Repin, three years older than Vengerov.

Repin won the 1989 Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition at the age of 17. After that, he has accumulated international activities and already has the personality of a Maestro.

Of course, with the full cooperation of his wife Svetlana Zakharova at the Bolshoi Ballet Prima, she has rapidly increased her presence in the Russian art festival, including performances in Japan in 2016 and 2017.

The main venue is the hall named after the conductor Arnold Katz. He was the founder of the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Orchestra in 1956 and was the artistic director of it long before his death in 2007.

The music festival is based in the hall, but is also held in the suburban scientific research city “Akademgorodok” as well as in various cities in Siberia. In addition, there are performances in Moscow and St. Petersburg.
