The International Music Festival “Košice Spring of Music” was founded in 1956 and is one of the oldest music festivals in Slovakia. The festival has been regularly held in April – May.
After the opening of the concert hall of the House of Arts in 1963, famous orchestras have begun to appear in the festival one after another.
Orchestras that have performed so far include the Slovak Philharmonic, the Czech Philharmonic, Leningrad Philharmonic, Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
A major turning point in the history of the festival came in 1969. The State Philharmonic Orchestra was established.
They were performed for the first time at the opening concert of the 14th Festival, led by the lead conductor Bistrijk Rezich.
In 1991, the International Organ Festival has become independent. Organ Festival was part of Košice Spring of Music from 1970 to 1990.
Košice Spring of Music is currently a forum with the possibility of confronting the performance of domestic and foreign soloists and chamber ensembles.
It is not only a varied variety of concerts, but in recent years also literary and fine arts.
