French composer Ivo Malec died in Paris. He died on August 14th, 94 years old. He is known for working on the production of electroacoustic music as a member of the “Music Concrete” group. In 1992, he won the French Music Grand Prix (founded in 1959). New work was announced until 2000. In 2006, he received the Chevalier Medal of “The Legion of Honour”.
Malec was born in 1925 in Zagreb, the capital of the former Republic of Croatia in Yugoslavia. After studying the basics of classical music in Zagreb, he moved to Paris in 1955 to study at the National Conservatory of Music.
In 1959 he joined the “Musique concrète” group. In the background, along with Pierre Henry, there is an encounter with Pierre Schaeffer, known as the founder of the group. “Musique concrète” is a composing style for producing music using inorganic recorded sounds.
