The application for “Miriam Herin International Singing Competition” held in Helsinki was closed at the end of last year, and it was announced that there were 474 entries. In 1984, the contest was founded by Professor Miliyam Herin who was in charge of teaching young singers at the Sibelius Conservatory for a long time with the feeling of “a world-class voice contest for Finland”. The secretariat of the competition talks to “the largest applicant in the history of the competition.”

2019 is held from 20th to 29th May. There are applications from 62 countries and regions. The largest numbers were from South Korea, Russia, China, Finland and the United States. The results of the preliminary examination will be announced on January 25. Eight people will participate in the final at the Finnish National Opera, and will perform with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra. The Jury chairman is Jorma Silvasti of tenor, and the judges gathered with Kiri Te Kanawa, Waltraud Meier, Deborah Polaski, Vesselina Kasarova, Ben Heppner, Olaf Bär.
