Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra extended the contract with music director Manfred Honeck until 2021/2022 season. Honeck has been leading the orchestra since 2008. Honeck was 60 years old born in 1958. In 1983 he joined the Vienna State Opera Orchestra as a viola player. After that he became a conductor, and since 1987 he was a assistant conductor of the Gustav Mahler Yugend Orchestra under Claudio Abbado.
After independence, he was the principal conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra (2000-2006), Music General Director of the Stuttgart State Opera (2007-2011), Chief Conductor of the Central German Radio Symphony Orchestra (1996-1999 ) And so on. His younger brother Rainer Honeck is a concert master of Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
