2024/08/29

The German Bayreuth Festival, founded by the composer Wagner himself and featuring only his works, closed on August 27. Last year, 97% of the tickets were sold, the first unsold tickets since the end of World War II, and this year, with the new production of “Tristan und Isolde,” all the tickets were sold out.

According to the announcement, in addition to the opera performances, two open-air concerts were held in the theater’s park and 10 performances of “The Dutch Airship,” the 15th annual “Wagner Project for Children,” were held at the Rehearsal Stage IV, which were also sold out. The number of visitors reached 58,000. Discounted ticket sales for young people up to the age of 25 were also popular, and will continue next year.

The opening of the festival next July 25 will be a new production of “Die Meistersinger von Nuremberg. The new production will be directed by Matthias Davids and conducted by Daniele Gatti. The singers will be Georg Zeppenfeld, Michael Spyres, Christian Nilsson, and Michael Nagy.

The year 2025 will also be the final year for “The Ring of the Nibelung,” directed by Valentin Schwarz, which has been staged since 2022. Simone Young will conduct “The Ring of the Nibelung” for the first time in the festival’s history as a female conductor.
