LONDON 〓 Aušrinė Stundytė Substitutes in “Elektra” and Makes Royal Opera Debut Ahead of Schedule

2024/01/19

Soprano singer Aušrinė Stundytė made her theater debut on January 15 as a substitute in Richard Strauss’ “Elektra” at the Royal Opera House. She was scheduled to make her theater debut in Puccini’s “Tosca,” which will open on February 5, but this was an early debut.

She is filling in for Nina Stemme, who had to withdraw from the production “due to ill health. This production of “Elektra” is a new production, newly directed by Christophe Roy. The conductor is Antonio Pappano, and the singers include Karita Mattila, Sara Jakubiak, Łukasz Goliński, and Charles Workman.

Stundytė was born in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. She studied at the Lithuanian Music Academy and then at the University of Music and Drama in Leipzig. She then worked as a resident singer at the Cologne Opera before continuing her career on the international stage.

In 2020, she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival singing Elektra. Since then, she has also sung at the Hamburg State Opera, Antwerp Opera, and Vienna State Opera, that have been a winning role for her.
