On February 24, the first anniversary of Russia’s armed invasion of Ukraine, the Metropolitan Opera in New York announced that it will present a special concert. Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will conduct the Opera Orchestra in a performance of Mozart’s Requiem and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.
In organizing the concert, General Manager Peter Gelb said, “Mozart’s Requiem is a memorial to the innocent victims of war, and Beethoven’s Fifth is a hope for the coming victory,” and he hopes to feature a number of Ukrainian soloists.
