CHICAGO 〓 Chicago Symphony Orchestra cancels summer European tour

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has announced the cancellation of its summer European tour with music director Riccardo Muti. It was decided in response to the worldwide epidemic of the new coronavirus.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Muti were also scheduled to perform at the Salzburg Festival in Austria and the Riga Jurmala Music Festival in Latvia.

Muti will not only turn 80 this summer, but will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of his debut at the Salzburg Festival.

At the Salzburg Festival, a concert with the Vienna Philharmonic will be held on schedule, and he will conduct Beethoven’s Missa solemnis for the first time.
