American soprano singer Ruth Falcon has died. She was 77 years old. She was active in famous opera houses in Europe and US such as the Metropolitan Opera, and after retiring she raised many singers as a teacher.

After studying at Loyola University and Tulane University in New Orleans, she made her opera debut in 1968 with the role of Frasquita in “Carmen” of the New Orleans Opera Association. In 1974, She made her debut at the New York City Opera as Mikaela in “Carmen”.

After that, she moved to Europe and worked as a staff singer at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich for six years. In the meantime, she refined her repertoire and then appeared in European opera houses. After returning to US, she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera as the Empress of “Die Frau ohne Schatten”.

She specializes in dramatic roles, singing the role of Chrysothemis in “Electra” and the title role of “Turandot” in the Metropolitan Opera. The final stage of her Metropolitan Opera was “Hansel and Gretel” in the 1996/1997 season.

After retiring, she taught younger generations at the Mannes School of Music based in New York and also taught at Tulane University. Her students include Ainhoa Arteta, Danielle de Niese, Sondra Radvanovsky, and Nadine Sierra.
