Russian mezzo-soprano Valentina Levko died in Moscow on 14th. She just celebrated her 92nd birthday the day before.

Lefko was born in Moscow in 1926. After studying violin and viola at Gnessin State Musical College Music Academy and Moscow Conservatory, she turned into voice. From the 1960’s to the 1980’s, she worked as a star singer of the Bolshoi Theater.

She gained a high reputation with a sophisticated singing style and a deep beautiful voice. Given the title of the People’s Artists from the Soviet government, the “Valentina Levko Memorial All Russian Vocal Music Competition” was also created.

She was also unusual for Russian singers at the time, and she repeatedly appeared at Teatro alla Scala, the Vienna State Opera, and the US Opera House.
