2026/03/14

The management committee of the Teatro La Fenice, chaired by the Mayor of Venice, has approved Beatrice Venezi’s appointment as music director. Her term will be four years, starting from the 2026/2027 season, as originally planned.

Regarding Venezi’s appointment, approximately 300 orchestra members and theater staff unanimously issued a statement protesting and demanding its withdrawal. A group of season ticket holders launched a petition campaign, stating that “if the appointment is not withdrawn, those who signed will resign their season ticket memberships.”

In his announcement, General Manager Nicola Colabianchi stated that there had been hesitation due to her young age of 35 and the fact that she is a woman, and that some union and orchestra members had raised concerns about her lack of experience, but that her appointment represents an investment in the future.
