Weissenberg Salzburg Recital 1972

The Bulgarian-born Jewish pianist Alexis Weissenberg (1929 – 2012) performed the recital at the Salzburg Festival in 1972. The venue is not a festival theater, but Mozarteum. He had been successfully blooming his career and in 1956 he declared a sudden rest and was abandoning his activities. After 10 years, it was 66 years that I resumed activities. In the following year he collaborated with conductor Herbert von Karajan, who is the representative of the 20th century, and succeeded greatly, he worked vigorously on concerts and recordings afterwards and will continue his brilliant career. Besides, in 1972, he realized his return to his home country for the first time in 28 years since exile, he was at the top of the fullness of both public and private. As a result, the first half of the program “Le Tombeau de Couperin” has a clear reverberation, which is his character, every corner, and Schumann’s Fantasie also scented with overwhelming techniques. Mussorgsky ‘s suite of the second half “Pictures at an Exhibition”. Each piece is highlighted with vibrant colors and it does not stop attracting those who listen until the end. Also, all the encore pieces are recorded. From glossy lists, from Chopin with flowers to the neat last J.S.Bach that will heal the excitement of the venue, the charm of Weissenberg at the height of the summit is tightly condensed.
