A music festival held in the early June in Ojai near Los Angeles. It was founded in 1947, the pioneering existence of the postwar music festival. In 1954, when composer Lawrence Morton (1904 – 1987) took over the festival as an artistic director, he switched to a course that is centered on the contemporary music festival.
After then, It was revealed to be an emphasis of Stravinsky, Copeland, Carter, Bellio, Boulez, Messian Composers gathered together, transformed into a transmission place of worldwide contemporary music, not just in the United States. The period is as short as 4 days. However, it is a music festival known for its depth of content.
Naturally, the guest artists also have many individuals who have their own perspective on the performance of contemporary music. Michael Tilson Thomas, Lucas Foss, Kent Nagano, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Simon Rattle and others are hosting numerous big names.
Also, the way that one of the casting artists serve as the music director of that year is also characteristic of this music festival. 2018 has been selected is violinist Patrizia Kopachinsukaya violinist, In 2019, singer Barbara Hannigan, and in 2020, conductor Matthias Pincher.
