Mörbisch is about 70 kilometers from Vienna, about a half hour by car. It is the city of Lake Neusiedressee which crosses Austria and Hungary.
Neusiedraahsee Lake is known as Europe’s largest step lake (a shallow lake without a natural pathway where the lake flows out into the sea), and the surrounding landscape is registered as a world heritage site.
It’s style here to enjoy the operetta that will be performed at the special stage on the lake surrounded by such beautiful nature. When the performance ends, the fireworks are also launched and the atmosphere is outstanding.
Every year one work is selected and performances are held on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from mid-July to late August. The performance starts from 8:30 pm, and the performance is relayed by the Austrian public broadcast “ORF”.
The first music festival was held in 1957. The capacity which initially was 1200 people has expanded to 6000 now. The performance level is high enough as a veteran conductor Rudolf Bibl who has been active in “Vienna Volksoper” served as a music director.
