Joliet is a city in the southwestern part of Quebec, about 50km northeast of Montreal. The festival is Canada’s largest music festival in the suburbs of Lanaudière Forest. It starts in early July and continues until early August.
The music festival was founded in the summer of 1977. The founder, Fernando Lindsay, invited the Montreal Symphony Orchestra to give three concerts at Joliet Cathedral. In 1978, eight concerts were held to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Schubert’s death.
In 1979, performances on an outdoor stage called Music Camp started. And in 1989, a circular open-air theater is completed. There are 2,000 covered seats, and the lawn behind them can accommodate 6,000 people.
It goes without saying that the level of the music festival is high, with the conductor Yannick Neze-Segan, who was born in Montreal, acting as the music director.
He is now a rising star, in addition to being the music director of the Metropolitan Opera in New York, he is also the music director of the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Grand Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra.
