Speaking of the Italian opera composer, “The King of Opera” Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini may be Two great masters. Although the age difference between the two is 45 years old, both are sent by the national funeral.
Puccini spent his late years in a quiet village in Torre del Lago, near Pisa. There is his villa on the shore of Massaciuccoli Lake, where he is sleeping.
This opera festival is performed every summer in an outdoor theater next to the villa. In 1930, the opera festival was founded by the composer Pietro Mascagni, a friend of Puccini. Since then, from mid-July to late August, four to five works have been completed, and it is also known as the gateway to young singers.
In 2001, the opera festival was first performed in Japan. At that time, the performance was “Madame Butterfly.” The use of Yasuda Kan’s sculpture as a world-class sculptor living in Italy caught people’s attention.
In 2006, a new outdoor theater with a capacity of 3,200 people was completed. In the summer of that year, the Italian premiere of the opera “Jr. Butterfly” was performed. “Jr. Butterfly” by Shigeaki Saegusa as a sequel to “Madame Butterfly”.
