U.S. soprano singer Christine Goerke, who had planned to debut at the Bayreuth Festival by singing Brunhilde, has dropped out. The reason for her dropout is that she can’t take part in all the long rehearsals.

From this year, a new “The Ring of the Nibelung” will be staged at the festival, directed by Valentine Schwartz. For this reason, a longer rehearsal is needed this year.

Goerke has sung Brunhilde at the Metropolitan Opera in the 2018/19 season. She leaves this year, but the festival is asking her to appear in “Tristan and Isolde” in 2023.

The replacement will be Iréne Theorin.
