Christian Stadelmann, who has served as the first principal of the second violin section of the Berliner Philharmoniker, died on 26 July. He was 60 years old. Born in 1959 in Berlin. After studying with Thomas Brandis at the Berlin University of the Arts, he joined the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1985, after being a member of the Junge Deutsche Philharmonic Orchestra. It has been promoted to the first principal in two years.
In the orchestra, Stadelmann has been a member of the five-member “congress” for over 20 years. He was also a member of the “Philharmonia Quartet Berlin”, led by Daniel Stabrawa, the first concert master of the Berliner Philharmoniker. At the same time, he taught at the Karajan Academy, established in 1972, with the aim of fostering musicians performing in orchestra.
