2024/09/19

Franz Welser-Möst, music director of the Cleveland Orchestra, will be taking a three-month break from his activities from the start of the new season to undergo cancer treatment. The three concerts he was scheduled to conduct will be taken over by Osmo Vänskä, Elim Chan and the orchestra’s assistant conductor Daniel Rais.

Möst was born in Linz, Austria, and is 64 years old. In September 2023, he announced that he would need to undergo 12 to 16 months of cancer treatment and temporarily suspended his activities, but he returned to the stage in January 2024. He just finished a European tour that took him to six cities, including Berlin and Vienna, on August 26th.
