The Vienna State Opera has announced the cancellation of the “Opernball 2021”. It was scheduled for February 11th in 2021. It was decided to cancel after the number of people infected with the new coronavirus has increased rapidly again.

“Opernball” is an annual event held by the Vienna State Opera on the Thursday before “Ash Wednesday” in February every year. It is one of the most prestigious dance parties in Europe and is attended by about 5,000 guests from overseas.

It was founded as old as 1877 during the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and was revived in 1956 after World War II. This is the second cancellation after 1991. At this time, it was canceled due to the influence of the Gulf War.
