Mravinsky & Leningrad Phil – 1961 Bergen Live 2

Former Soviet masters Evgeni Mravinsky (1903 – 1988), known as a solitary conductor, led his orchestra Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra (now St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra) in 1961 to Bergen International, Norway It was when guests guest at the Festival. Concert for June 2 was recorded. Mravinsky was appointed as a permanent conductor of the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra in 1938, kneeling up a precise ensemble and raising it to the Soviet top orchestra. In the autumn of last year, they recorded a late symphony collection of the famous Tchaikovsky of the famous board. It is obvious from this album that they had reached the heyday. “Eroica” has a strong sense of tension from the beginning and runs through to the end while muscular music is wrapped in hot air. The trained ensemble is not disrupted by one stroke, the timbre does not lose glossiness anywhere, and it spins out the fine expression of the music. It is a steep musical piece that ends breathlessly. There are many kinds of recordings of Shostakovich who was good at it, this is the 13th recording. Again, music is full of ambition, in terms of brilliance it is a masterpiece with a different attraction from the later recordings of later years. While monaural, because of reprint from the sound source for broadcasting, sound quality is better than expected.
