Heidelberg is a city in the southwestern part of central Germany. It is located about 100 kilometers south of Frankfurt, near the confluence of the Rhine and Neckar rivers. Frankfurt, Karlsruhe and Stuttgart airports are scattered around, and access is good.
Heidelberg has a beautiful old town and is included in the sightseeing route “Castle Road = Burgen Strasse”. On the hill, the castle where the court of the Electoral Palatinate was once remains, and the “Arte Brücke-Carl Theodor Bridge” that straddles the Neckar River is one of the most beautiful bridges in Germany.
It is also known as an academic city. The city is home to Germany’s oldest “Heidelberg University”, founded in 1386. Numerous research centers are also based in the city, including the National Academy of Sciences, the German Cancer Research Center, the Max Planck Institute, and the European Institute for Molecular Biology.
And for music fans, it is also the city where the tomb of the famous German conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler is located.
In 1996, a new music festival started to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the city’s municipal organization. For about a month, a concert of a slightly elaborate program will be held by an artist who makes you feel particular about it.
The venues for the concerts are the large hall of Heidelberg University and the Congress House. The organ concert takes place at the Holy Spirit Church in the center of the city.
