Franz Schreker (1878 – 1934) was born in Monaco, an Austrian composer who died in Berlin. This “Die Gezeichneten” is a work which the script person himself worked, premiered in Frankfurt in April 1918. A nobleman who loves art builds an ideal island by investing personal property. However, the person himself carries a complex in his ugly appearance and will not approach the island. Fellow nobles came in there, kidnapped the young girl on the island and sent enjoyable days …. Because it began with such a shameful story, it seemed that the work would sink in the scandal. However, it was unexpectedly welcomed from the “era”. In the era when the devastation by WW I and the values changed drastically, people wanted exciting sexual expression. The number of performances became a popular work exceeding 1000 times in total, and Schreker became a popular composer. However, with the emerging Nazis, his work is stamped with “decadent music”. Because it is a Jewish work. Eventually he was expelled from the public post and died in disappointment. It is 100 years since its premiere. Barrie Kosky, one of the most aggressive directors now, moved the stage of the story to a sculpture museum where stone statues lined up. Extreme bed scenes do not appear either. Painter Carlotta does not paint Alviano, she creates his arms with sculpture. “The tranquility” of Kosky’s production emerges the inner face of grotesque Alviano’s heart.
