A music festival held in the state Schleswig-Holstein, north of Germany, every summer, from the beginning of July to the end of August.
During the period, nearly 150 concerts are held in Kiel, Hamburg, Lübeck and other places throughout the state, with concert halls, palaces and churches as venues.
Festival founded in 1986. The following year, the orchestra and academy for young musicians was established by the conductor Lénard Bernstein and the “Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra” which young musicians gathered there was organized.
In addition, festival supported by Hamburg based NDR （Norddeutscher Rundfunk） fully, there are many concerts by the NDR’s Elbphilharmonie Orchester and international artists.
The thought of Bernstein later led to the creation of the Sapporo PMF (Pacific Music Festival). Currently, the PMF and here, and the Tanglewood music festival in the United States are regarded as the world’s three major educational music festivals.
