Presence of unique “Festspielorchester”

One of Vogler’s achievements was that he launched a period / original music instrument festival orchestra (= Dresdner Festspielorchester) in 2012. For the establishment for the Dresdner Festspielorchester, the spirit of the legendary »Orchestra di Dresda« was imagined: the former court orchestra of August II era – Johann Georg Pisendel and others gathered masterpieces, which was honored as the best ensemble at that time. Vivaldi has also drafted the work RV 577. The member of Dresdner Festspielorchester comes from famous orchestras such as the Academy of Ancient Music, the Orchestera of the18th Century, the Balthasar-Neumann-Ensemble, the Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique, the Concentus Musicus Wien, Il Giardino Armonico and Le Cercle de l’ Harmonie.

For example, concertmaster Alexander Janiczek had served as Scottish Chamber Orchestra and Camerata Salzburg. Principal cello is Werner Matzke from the Concerto Köln and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, the principal oboe is Michael Niesemann and active in English Baroque Soloists through the Concerto Köln and Musica Antiqua Köln, the principal trumpet is Wolfgang Gaisböck. Shunsuke Sato, who had been a core member until the previous year, did not participate in 2017; however, Yoshiko Morita of the 18th century orchestra joined, instead.

The music festival orchestra has organized quite unique programs. It features rare works such as „Beltane Fire”, an opera by Richard Strauss in 2013 and “The Creation” by Haydn in 2016. On the other hand, Schumann’s Symphony cycle began, and its official album with the first cello concerto and the second symphony was released in 2016. As a memorial project for the 40th anniversary of the music festival in 2017, the music festival orchestra engaged in a number of performances, starting with a special concert on April 30th before the opening, which followed by 8 performances and workshop including tours to other cities.
