Korngart ‘s “City of Death” is an opening performance of the 2018/2019 season. From this season, Komische Oper Berlin greeted Ainars Rubikis at GMD (General Director of Music). Rubikis was born in 1978, Riga, the capital of Latvia. He won the Gustav Mahler international conductor competition sponsored by the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and was known for its existence, afterwards he has gained experience at orchestras and opera. He is conducting Shostakovich “The Nose” in June this year before his inauguration, but the “city of death” was a place to officially show off his inauguration. That’s why he was too nervous, criticism that the orchestra was played too much, and the tempo was dropped too much to sing the melody, and it seems that it will take some time to fully control the orchestra. On the other hand, Carsen first appeared in Komische Oper Berlin. In the gray wall bedroom, a bed, a wardrobe, a dresser, a table, an armchair, a woman’s shoes are placed and the room is regarded as a “temple of memory” for Paul. The story advances in the atmosphere of the 1920s.
