Deutsche Grammophon signed an exclusive contract with Mirga Gražiny tė-Tyla. Deutsche Grammophon signed a female conductor with the first time in history. Gražinytė-Tyla was born in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania in 1986. After studying in Graz, Zurich etc, she received the “Nestle – Salzburg Festival Young Conductors Award” in 2012. From 2016 she has served as Music Director of Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra as a replacement for Andris Nelsons. She extended her contract last year, and the term has increased until 2021.
The debut album will be released in May. It is said to be a work collection of Polish composer Mieczysław Wajnberg. Wajnberg was born in 1919 (death in 1996), celebrating its centennial birth in 2019. The Symphony No. 21 “Kaddish” dedicated to the victim of “Warsaw Ghetto” established by Nazis Germany and the early Symphony No. 2 are put in the album. Birmingham City Symphony Orchestra, Clementorata Baltica and violinist Gidon Kremer are participating in the recording.
