Italian soprano Rosanna Carteri died in Monte Carlo on the 25th. She was 89 years old. She retired from the stage as early as 36 years old, but continued to be active internationally, mainly from the 1950s to the mid-1960s.

She was born in Verona and raised in Padua. She won the Italian Broadcasting Corporation (RAI) singing contest in 1948. She made her opera debut in 1949, when she was 19 years old, singing the role of Elsa in Wagner’s “Lohengrin” at the Caracalla in Rome.

She made her debut in La Scala in Milan in 1951. She made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 1952 and sang Desdemona in “Otello”, conducted by Wilhelm Furtwängler. After that, she made her debut in famous opera houses one after another.

She is active in a wide repertoire. Actively participate in modern products. She has sung at the European premiere of Prokovev’s War and Peace, as well as at the premiere of Pizzetti, Juan Jose Castro and Castelnuovo-Tedesco.
