Music festival founded in 1948 by composer Benjamin Britain, singer Peter Pierrs, and author Eric Closure. Aldeburgh is a small fishing village on the Suffolk coast in eastern England. Britain spent his later years in this village and is asleep here. The music festival is held every June, and a variety of events are held in Aldeburgh and nearby areas. A master class for young musicians is also held, and it is characterized by being able to receive guidance from world musicians.
From the beginning, the music festival has been accompanied by a number of big names such as the vocalist Fischer-Dieskau, the violin Judy Menuin, the piano Svatoslav Richter, and the cello Mstislav Rostropovich. That is why a more authentic hall is required. So a 19th century malt mill in Snape, about 5 miles from Aldeburgh, began renovation.
The new hall was completed in 1967. The new hall was called “The Maltings” and the opening ceremony was held in the presence of Elizabeth II. However, the hall was burnt down by the fire on the first day of the music festival just two years later. However, it was rebuilt in the following year and reopened with the Queen again. This is the main venue now.
