Translated literally, a bridge over the Inn River. It is about 5 hours by express train from Vienna to Innsbruck. Innsbruck, known for the hosting of the Winter Olympic Games in 1964 and 1976, is the center city of the Tyrol region and has many historical buildings including the Royal Palace and the Old Town.

Since 1976, The early music festival has been held regularly in the city every August. Over time, conductors such as pioneers of the early music world, Nikolaus Harnoncourt and John Eliot Gardiner will appear, and Jordi Savall and Sigiswald Kuijken will gather to attract attention as the “Mecca” of early music.

In 1992, René Jacobs, a counter tenor singer and conductor, became the opera director. In 1997, when he became an artistic director, the movement was further accelerated, and rare works from the Baroque period were unearthed one after another.

The festival is a combination of opera performances and concerts. Since 2010, conductor Alessandro de Marchi, who is also a disciple of Jacobs, has taken over the post of the artistic director and is expanding the program. Opera is performed at the Tyrolean State Theater, and concerts are held in the Spanish halls of the Ambras Castle, known for its Renaissance style.
